Wirral Actress Performs Modern Miracle with THE SPELL
· Wallasey Based Actress Stars in National Cinema Release of the Latest Feature Film From Award Winning Director Owen Carey Jones
Low budget independent British feature films are not un-common these days; but what makes The Spell different is that it will take its place amongst the big-budget Hollywood block busters being shown at cinemas across the country this week (2nd October 2009).
"It's been described as a modern miracle," says local actress Hayley Taylor-Jones, who plays a mental health nurse looking after the central character. "It's refreshing that a truly independent film can get made, and indeed noticed in today's incredibly competitive cinema market".
The Spell is Carey Jones's third feature film. Shot entirely in Northern England for what in film industry terms is a micro budget (coming in at under £200,000) it describes itself as "a powerful tale of good and evil" that is likely to appeal to a "broad audience, particularly those in their late teens and early twenties."
Already selected and shown at this year's Cannes Film Festival The Spell received its UK premiere in Leeds on Thursday 1st October 2009 before opening at selected cinemas across the UK, including Liverpool, Manchester and London's West End on Friday 2nd October 2009.
"This film is a deeply moving story of one girl's fight to gain control of her life after a series of dramatic events which leave her utterly helpless." Say's Hayley, who is no stranger to the silver screen having already appeared in Owen's second Feature Film A Mind of Her Own.
Hayley attended LIPA and graduated two years ago, since then she has appeared at the Unity Theatre Liverpool, set up her own theatre company; who will be performing in "Thomas St" at the Free For Arts Festival in Odd bar Manchester, Monday 5th October. Hayley as well as appearing in a number of short films, has also appeared in high profile TV commercials, such as for Nivea for Gok Wan's Fashion fix. She will be appearing as one of the lead roles in a Liverpool based feature film, which is hoping to be shot at the end of the year. Hayley is looking to shoot her own films and recently shot her first short film, and hopes to bring more work to the Liverpool and Manchester based actors. Hayley is also the press officer at the Liverpool Actor's Equity branch and has some exciting events and public talks with very high profile actors coming up.
"I hope that the release of The Spell in the UK will herald further deals resulting in the film being widely seen in cinemas around the world," said Hayley.
